Word Learner Privacy Policy
Word Learner is a Chrome extension for collecting English words while reading webpages and saving study notes as Markdown files in a user-selected Obsidian folder.
Information the extension processes
Word Learner processes information only when the user actively interacts with the extension. When the user double-clicks or Ctrl/Command-clicks an English word on a webpage, the extension may store:
- The selected English word.
- The nearby context sentence.
- The page title and page URL.
- The timestamp and encounter count.
How information is stored
Word records are stored locally in Chrome extension storage. When the user chooses a local folder, Word Learner can write a Markdown study note into that folder. This is intended for use with Obsidian vault folders.
Third-party dictionary requests
To show definitions and translations, Word Learner may request dictionary data from dictionaryapi.dev and dict.youdao.com. These requests send the selected word only. The extension does not send full webpage content to these dictionary services.
Data sharing
Word Learner does not upload word records, webpage content, or local files to the developer's servers. Word Learner does not sell user data, use user data for advertising, or transfer user data to third parties for unrelated purposes.
User control
Users can delete recorded words from the extension popup. Users can also remove all extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing the extension's local storage in Chrome.
